Prof. Dato’ Dr. Zulkifli Idrus is an esteemed academic and researcher at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), with over 30 years of experience in teaching and research in the field of poultry science and production. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Master of Science (MS) from UPM, and earned his PhD in Poultry Science from Virginia Tech, USA.
Renowned for his contributions to poultry welfare and stress biology, Prof. Zulkifli’s research explores the physiological and nutritional responses of poultry under stressful environmental conditions. His scholarly work has led to the publication of more than 230 peer-reviewed journal articles, accumulating over 5,500 citations and an h-index of 39 (Scopus), reflecting his strong impact in the field.
Prof. Zulkifli has also held several key leadership roles at UPM, including serving as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and as Director of the Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security. His leadership extended to the national level as well; he is currently the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and leads the ASM Sustainable Food Working Group under the National Planetary Health Action Plan.
